PREVIEW: Dash Rip Rock at The Brighton Bar

For this week, I will be attending a band performance at a bar in New Jersey. The show is tomorrow at The Brighton Bar in Long Branch, NJ with Dash Rip Rock playing at 8 pm.

Dash Rip Rock is a three-piece punk-rock/southern-rock band that got started in Louisiana during the 1980s.

My goal is to live blog the show and give anyone who can’t make it an idea of what the night was like.

While bands themselves are not the standard focus of the Surround Sound blog, I made note in my introduction post that this would be possible at some point. I have, however, provided some brief information on Brighton Bar for those interested.

Founded over 30 years ago, Brighton Bar has been an outlet for live, original music to the Jersey shore area.

The bar known as “The House of Original Music” hosts musical stylings from rock to jazz to country. Local bands can say they found their beginning at Brighton while the bar can also boast names like Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen having graced their stage.

Check back tomorrow for more on where to follow my coverage of the event.

Interview with Joe DeBlasio, drummer for bands such as Dollhaus Puppet and Midnight Mission

There are only a handful of people whom I look up to in life. One of them is my father. This week, I sat down with my dad, Joe DeBlasio, to talk with him about his incredible music career.

A drummer since he was a teenager, Joe has been around music almost all his life, playing live shows in the tri-state area with numerous bands and experiencing the changes in the landscape of music.

He inspired me to take up playing an instrument and even though it wasn’t drums, I still believe the musical ability and knack came from him.

Joe shares stories of some of the best venues he’s played at, what the atmosphere of playing live was like then versus today and balancing music with changing responsibilities in life.

This is an excerpt.

The full interview is available here.

Below is a video of Dollhaus Puppet performing “One Room Shack” at City Gardens in Trenton, the famous punk venue no longer standing, around 1997.
